Downtown Granville Street has played a significant role in Vancouver’s history and development. In recent years Downtown Vancouver has undergone significant revitalization as high-rise condos spring up to replace commercial properties and houses. Granville Street is now a mix of significant heritage buildings, new buildings, run down buildings and vacant lots.
Vancouver is building a new downtown. What do we want “Vancouver’s Grand Street” to look like in this new downtown? Heritage Vancouver invites you to an evening to explore the history of Granville Street, learn about city initiatives being undertaken or planned, and contribute ideas on what Granville Street could become.
Michael Gordon, Senior Central Area Planner for the City of Vancouver will provide an overview of the history of Downtown Granville Street and talk about current and planned city initiatives.
Donny Wong, Manager of the Rapid Transit Office, City of Vancouver, will talk about the new design for Granville Street and how it reflects the Heritage of the street.
Rodney Ward, community contributor, will talk about what Granville Street could be, perhaps a multi-layered entertainment district with Heritage buildings as show pieces.
Themba Tana, speaking for the jazz and blues scene, will talk about the importance of the Yale Hotel as a contributor and resource for our music community.
This is an opportunity to contribute ideas to shape Downtown Granville Street and create a future for our heritage.
