May 2008
Bulletin
Tuesday, May 20, 2008; 4pm to 8pm
Best Western Sands Hotel at 1755 Davie Street
The owner of this Heritage Building is seeking a zoning change to build a 20-storey tower containing 33 rental units and 50 condominiums with the façade of Maxine’s retained as an entrance to the tower. The rest of Maxine’s along with the 1905 house attached to the restaurant will be demolished. The applicant is asking for the allowable zoning to be doubled, in exchange for the rental units and the "heritage retention".
Heritage Vancouver does not support this application, as the level of conservation (facadism) does not justify this enormous increase in density.
This month’s meeting at the Museum was replaced with the evening at Maxine’s on Saturday, May 10. We encourage all of you to attend the public hearing regarding the future of Maxine’s Hideaway on May 20.
